There’s been a lot of buzz about how LiDAR technology is revolutionizing the automotive industry, mapping, agriculture, security and beyond. At Cepton we’re proud to play a pivotal role in changing the way consumers get around and helping businesses become more efficient. However, there is still a lot of confusion about how LiDAR works and how it will be implemented. Many people think that all LiDAR solutions are expensive and cost-prohibitive for integration at scale. While traditional LiDAR solutions were pricey, today the cost of LiDAR has gone down dramatically. With Cepton’s Micron Motion Technology (MMT™) platform, we’re bringing high performance and cost-efficient LiDAR to autonomous cars, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other smart machines.
Another misconception is that LiDAR will not be integrated into vehicles for a long time. In fact, LiDAR will be integrated into cars over the next few years to enable Level 3 active safety features to provide assistance with accelerating, steering and braking. Level 4 autonomous features will hit the market later to provide cars with even more autonomy, and fully self-driving (Level 5) vehicles will be rolled out once a number of technology, government regulations and local infrastructure considerations are ironed out.
