Delightful Deutschland
As the group was preparing for the trip from Belgrade to Split. I took a detour away from the group and to Germany. It has been 10 years since I was living in Bonn, Germany and some of my friends from back then had organized that we should all get together as a reunion.
It’s crazy to think that it has been 10 years since I was living in Bonn however also so much has happened in the mean time. Although looking back it is sad to think I haven’t seen some of the group for 10 years. I hope that it will not be another 10 years before we meet again. In fact with my travels I have already informally organized that I will see people on the road this year. I was also lucky to pick up some great tips for the travels ahead.

Bonn itself has barely changed in the 10 years since I haven’t been here. All the main spots are still there most importantly James Joyce where a lot of drinks and pool games were had. One of the first things to do when I was back was to go there. A shot of Jagermeister was required for old times sake.

We had our reunion at Alter zoll which is a great beer garden sat on the Rhine. It is a location I loved and even had my farewell there. So many years ago. Time may have passed but still enjoy the place all the more now. Just a shame we didn’t have the weather to have a bbq on the grass though.

So whilst I spent time in Bonn unfortunately my good friend Francisco wasn’t able to make it for the reunion itself. So as a result for Sunday I made the trip down to Frankfurt to spend the evening there with Francisco. It has been a couple of years since we’ve seen each other but we always get on well every time like there has been no time passed. Hopefully it won’t be another couple of years before we see each other again.
Unfortunately what feels like a long weekend quickly disappears quite quickly but the main thing was I was able to see people laugh and reminisce on old times. 10 years has passed and whilst being away from people for so long friendships have not ended.
It was also good to get away from the Remote Year group albeit only for a couple of days. The next year is going to be an intense period being around the same 40~ people. So at the same time it is important to take time away from the wider group to ensure that I have my me time and a clear head.
