Cervantes Co-Authored Net Neutrality Legislation Goes to Governor

As a member of the California State Assembly, Sabrina Cervantes is a co-author and voted in favor of Senate Bill 822, landmark legislation that would provide California with the strongest net neutrality protections in the nation. The bill was approved by both houses of the California Legislature and is currently awaiting a signature or veto from Governor Jerry Brown.

Senate Bill 822 would prohibit internet service providers from slowing down or entirely blocking access to rival websites. It would also prohibit these providers from speeding up access to certain websites if the website paid the providers a fee to do so. SB 822 would help restore protections to the internet that were put in place by President Barack Obama in 2015, then repealed by the current Administration in 2017.

Ensuring free, open, and equal access to the internet is essential to maintain a democratic society; provide our students with access to the latest information to support their studies; and help create jobs throughout California. Protecting net neutrality is a vital part of helping move Western Riverside County forward, not backward.

Sabrina Cervantes is running for re-election to continue representing California’s 60th State Assembly District, which includes Corona, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Norco, and portions of the City of Riverside. You can find out more about her campaign here, or follow her on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
