I don’t like the idea, is an easy solution, a workaround, a hack if you wish, but it feels like loosing a battle before even starting it.

I’m talking about the challenge of a machine understanding it’s environment like a human would do, if we can’t deliver a decent enough classifier for traffic signs, perhaps we should give up the all self-driving car industry as they will never be safe enough.

Beaides, in the age of internet and self driving car, maybe should get the information like speed limits directly from the map.

Also, not having to tamper with the environment but having a machine that can orient itself would make the whole “operation” safer, faster, cheaper and much more sustainable ^_^
