Pretty much every environmental study has shown that dumping that water into the ocean would be safe and contains very little radiation relative to natural background radiation. So saying that the plant is generating “unimaginable amounts of contaminated waste” is just silly and false. The radioactive substance it contains is tritium, which is naturally abundant and comes down in the form of rain. Now, are people scared, yes. Are fishermen opposed to dumping this water, yes. But given the amount of misinformation and fear mongering, that is not surprising.
