A day in Lokrum island — from Dubrovnik

When visiting Dubrovnik in Croatia, ride a ferry/boat to the island right next to it for a half-day or a day escape in the water and woods. (If you have more than a few days in the area, I heard it’s nice to visit other islands as well. There are island hopping torus and ferries provided.)

In the Lokrum Island

It turned out it is a popular destination (for families). Therefore I suggest you take a relatively early boat so that you can enjoy some part of the park (or the nature reserve island) all by yourself or with less people, and can have a moment of having your own semi-private beach or pond (above photo.)

Nothing much other than a nature in this island, but it is very refreshing and relaxing. Perfect if that’s what you are looking for. For me, this was unexpectedly nice (even as a solo traveler) and stayed there longer than I thought I would. You can swim in the water, relax in the woods or with the ocean view, or walk around the island to see different parts of it. It does have a few cafes where you can have ice coffee, ice cream, or some sandwiches etc.

You pay the ferry and the entrance fee of the island, as it is the nature reserve. You may need to pay for the beach chairs the park provides, but there are other places or ways to relax. Bring your towels for sure.

Definitely an option to consider when visiting Dubrovnik. The main beach in the Dubrovnik was way too crowded (I didn’t even go there although I saw it — especially when it’s super hot outside and you are by yourself).

Salut! and enjoy the world.
