Time Management for NMAT

NMAT is all about speed. This is one exam where the “slow and the steady” might not necessarily win the race. NMAT wants you to be quick, and steady, at the same time. And the key to being quick and steady is time management.

Following are some tips to make sure that you do not waste time during the day of the test:

1) Order: NMAT has three sections: Language Skills, Quantitative Skills & Logical Reasoning. One good thing is that NMAT gives you the option to choose the order of sections that you want to attempt. You have to select the order before you start attempting the test. Therefore, make sure that you know what order you are going to choose. Give a lot of mocks before the exam, so that you know what order of sections suits you best.

The ideal strategy is to attempt your strongest section at the beginning and keep the weaker ones towards the end.

2) Read Carefully: Now, cracking NMAT is all about speed. You do not have the luxury of misreading or missing any information given in the questions. If you do make that mistake, it will hamper your score in a big way. Misreading can cause errors in your answers. Identifying your mistake and rectifying the error will take up valuable time.

Therefore, please read all the questions carefully. Just be alert and do not let hastiness or nervousness get the better of you during the test.

3) Time It: On an average, you have a minute for each question. Therefore, keep track of the time being taken for each question. If you are solving a question since the past few mins with no progress, then it is probably time to skip it.

Do not get emotionally attached to a question. The goal is to maximize your score. Do not waste time in satisfying your ego by refusing to leave a difficult/complex question.
