If it doesn’t matter what a non-contending team does why do they keep playing the games? Isn’t the entire point of statistical analysis to determine what an individual player contributes regardless of context? If you want a one inning pitcher to be the “most valuable” then the game should probably be changed to only consistent of one inning games in a single elimination tournament. It would certainly save us all a lot of time and money.
