Fee Fi Fo Pho I smell a takeaway
I tend to avoid the baby boomer classification, but appreciate that it also applies to me not being of the later generations. At the time, to me baby boomers were slightly older, had more access to drugs, & were looking at Vietnam conscription.
Ok. I eat pho. I eat a range of foods & are totally not xenophobic about such. My cuisine choices varies from Szechuan to Ecuadorian, Spanish, Portuguese, Peranakan, Macanese, … Thai, Vietnamese, … In fact, I not only appreciate such, I can cook it. Admitedly, I have not been to the Szechuan province or Ecuador yet, but yes the other places, well Hanoi in about a month. And I have cooked Pho, the traditional beef pho, along with duck & chicken Pho. The latter are particularly enjoyable.
Being from Australia, we had a cultural revolution of our own as our white bread English based cooking gave way to more adventurous fare. Italian food was the beginning of the shift — with pasta, garlic bread, & a bottle of plonk — but Chinese, Vietnamese… opened the floodgates. My grandmother wouldn’t have anything as strong as garlic in her food, whereas I start cooking with several cloves of garlic, onions, … then onto chillies, lemon grass, etc.
Ultimately, I am of the opinion that sharing of different foods will be the saviour of the human race because it is an equaliser. We all eat & enjoy our food. Travel is mind broadening, & my experience in say Bangkok food markets or a cooking class in Melaka, confirms this. Great architecture & food is of Islamic origin, as is very evident in Spain. Respect & we will get on.
So I would be curious to know if Millennials also cook their Pho, or just get takeways.
