The Coalition for Women in Journalism is launching a campaign following the brutal murder of our Indian colleague Gauri Lankesh. The campaign will launch via a Twitter chat on Friday, 29th of September, 9:30AM EST. We encourage you to follow, join and invite your colleagues, male and female, to the conversation by tweeting tomorrow using the hashtag #ThreatsToWIJ. You can also include hashtag #GauriLankesh. The Coalitions twitter handle is @cfwij.

The stifling of Gauri’s voice is a stark glimpse of what journalists in India are increasingly facing. Our colleagues in journalism can chime in from anywhere in the world to highlight the work conditions of women journalists and the under reported threats they face in India, and non-western countries.

The recent murders of our women colleagues Gauri Lankesh, Kim Wall and Halla Barakat also highlight the grave threats to women in journalism. The industry seems detached from the diversity of issues faced by women in journalism and especially women of color.

If you have something to say, please add your thoughts to the conversation on Friday!
