Actually, Paul Krugman (another Nobel economist) has also been ringing alarm bells for decades. A third Nobel winner, James McGill Buchanan, may actually be a (or the) key architect of the trends we’re waking up to now. Read N. MacLean’s “Democracy in Chains” (Penguin, 2017; a National Book Award finalist), the most recent book sounding alarms and chronicling this history. Nothing accidental about this.
