Cut the Crap Podcast: Built to Sell

Books are fantastic — They allow you to stand on the shoulders of someone else’s lifetime of work in just a matter of hours. I was recently interviewed on the Cut the Crap podcast, one that takes reading to a whole new level. Ryan, the head honcho at Cut the Crap, pulls the main highlights from one book he loves, and shares all the juicy details in a matter of minutes. Ryan interviewed me about a book called Built to Sell. I love this book for multiple reasons, so in the podcast, I explained my takeaways, and how they help our business on a regular basis.

Process

Most new businesses don’t focus too much on creating processes out of the day-to-day work. This was a huge to our current success. If a daily task or strategy is rough to implement, odds are it’s the process that needs refining, not the task. If you don’t know where to start, then you don’t have a process.. Build one.

Improving Processes

Continually improving on those processes helps improve efficiency in your work day. The less time you spend doing the same work over and over again, the more time you can spend on finding new work, or improving more things within your organization. This alone was one of the key takeaways for me from this book, and it’s been instrumental in keeping So Fetch open.

Slim down what you offer

This was a tough pill to swallow. Successful business operators repeat this over and over again. Narrow your focus of offerings. Don’t say you do everything under the sun. When you can say exactly what you’re good at, it becomes extremely easy to tell people in conversations.

I touched briefly on all the topics in the podcast. To get all the details, go listen! It’s 23 minutes long — thats a walk around the block or a short drive to the store while listening to it.
