Chapter XXIX: A Sign of Blood

Finally everyone got ready to rest and settle down. There was a chorus of “good nights”. They all eventually fell into deep sleep.

During the night, TruEthan had dreams about “blood will spill more blood”, a line from Princess Rovia’s letter before. He dreamed of the biggest battle ever in Formonda, so big and terrible. The land was covered in blood. The trees withered away and died. The rivers ran red. The mountains fell apart and became a big pile of rocks. The sky turned to orange and red, reflecting the color of death that will swallow the Jumpers. At the end, there was Pruisima, the Jumper that had been destroyed already in a fire in reality. There was a group of travelers, ones that he didn’t recognize. They were searching something. The quest had a meaning. Then, darkness, blood, skulls, and other bad things started to appear.

TruEthan woke up, with his heart racing and a lot of sweat in his back.

“God! That was an intense dream!” he thought. “It seemed like the greatest battle, it’s near. Who are in the battle?”

TruEthan could not sleep for a while because of the terror from the nightmare. When he finally fell asleep again, thankfully, there was no more dreaming this time.

When Chrishie woke up in the morning, everyone else in his room was already awake and chatting. They walked downstairs for breakfast. When they sat down with their breakfast, TruEthan asked Chrishie if they could talk in private.

“Sure!” Chrishie answered casually.

It wasn’t what Chrishie had been expecting. He thought this was just a friendly chat about a little reunion and a warm welcome, but it wasn’t. TruEthan started talking about blood covering the Jumpers and plants withering away… and death. Chrishie shuddered.

“Something is coming! We have to lead this group through a fearful time of Formonda history, this will be the The Great Battle. Nobody will do it though, no locals or residents will be able to fight for their own lives.” TruEthan said.

“Well, I created Formonda to be a peaceful place. I don’t know how a person like Jrunk appeared,” said Chrishie.

TruEthan sighed. “It’s not about that, Chrishie. It’s that WE have to fight! We have to fight so Formonda will be safe. We don’t want people in Formonda to die!”

Chrishie stared at TruEthan for a few seconds, then he said, “We have to prepare for the battle! Go warn the others. You are absolutely right, no one except us, six of us — you, me, Armi, Adiale, Shao, and John, can do this. We have the responsibility of Formona.”

TruEthan smiled, “Now that’s my good friend Chrishie.”
