“Maybe that’s why some straight men see us so narrowly, in terms of grooming, narcissism, and RuPaul’s Drag Race, rather than in 3D.”
Never been the best dresser, the best looking/best groomed, or into musicals, or Ru-Paul’s Drag Race. But these things never “defined” being a gay man to me. Some of my friends like “some” of these things, but not “all” of these things. Just as I have some friends who have feminine/masculine ways. Doesn’t make them bad or good…..just makes them human.
Can’t even count all the times, while talking with the check out cashiers, that they said “I’m sure your wife would like that on you “(clothes I was buying), or “I’m sure your kids will like that” (for gifts I was buying for nieces/nephews). Does this make me a better part of the LGBTQI Community? No, it just means I don’t fall into a “stereotype”.
I am always grateful to the average man/woman who comes out, be it in Sports, Entertainment, Business, or Political. Because this lets “str8's” know that we are NOT a stereotype. We are separate individuals, who prefer not to have sex with the opposite sex. My fervent wish, is that, the upcoming men and women, who are born after 2010 (not sure what “term” the news media uses), can see beyond the old ideas, and gain the proper perspective.
