ONE SMALL HABIT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

How Reading 10 Pages a day is Changing my Life!
What was the last book that you read? One in four Americans would have a difficult time answering this question; they would have to go back over a year or more in their memory banks to find the answer. Over 25% of Americans have not read a single book in the past year.
Whether you didn’t read any books last year, or 1, 2, 5, or 10 plus, making one small daily commitment could change your life. This small change will help to make you stand out from the crowd of average people, while also producing positive effects in all areas of your life.
This small commitment is simple: read just 10 pages a day from a book, everyday. If you do this, at the end of a year, you will have read around 15 books. Image all of the knowledge and wisdom you could gain from 15 books! Here is how the I came up with 15 books:
- 10 pages x 365 days = 3650
- The average book is around 250 pages
- 3650/ 250 = around 15 books!
So far this year, I have read some amazing books. There have been three in particular that have had a big impact on me.
BOOK 1: Linchpin by Seth Godin

The reason why this book had a big impact on me was the way it shifted my mindset of how I looked at work. Godin wrote about the history of the work place and where there was the clear division of the workers and management. He then expounded on a third group, the Linchpins. These are the people that are indispensable to the company because they do more than just show up and do their job, they strive to make a difference everyday.
This book also explored how everyone has art to give to the world. You don’t have to be a painter, a sculptor, a musician, or any other traditionally thought of artist in order to have art to give. The gift that you give the world can be your art. For me, the art that I give is my leadership. Leadership is both an art and a science. I really enjoy embracing the art side of it; it provides me a method of expression and it gives me purpose
BOOK 2: Relentless by Tim Grover

Some people are good, few are great, and even fewer are unstoppable. This book is about those who are unstoppable. These are the elite performers who are relentless, who will stop at nothing to be the greatest. This book offers valuable insight into the mindset of some of the most successful NBA athletes; this mindset can be applied to any area of life.
The insights to how Kobe Bryant trained and on his work ethic really resonated with me. No one worked harder than Kobe; he was truly dedicated to his craft. Since reading this book I have adopted Kobe as a virtual mentor of mine. I continue to learn lessons from hearing and reading stories about how he dedicated everything to be the best player he could be.
BOOK 3: Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink & Leif Babin

Each year hundreds of leadership books hit the shelves every year. After reading a few of them, they all start to sound similar. The same message, just packaged slightly different. This book definitely does not fall into this category. This book clearly stood out from other books in the genre with it’s simple, clear, and powerful message: As a leader you have to take ownership of everything. No passing the blame when something goes wrong, as a leader you have to own the results.
There is nothing quite like the feel of a book in your hands, with a pen or a highlighter close by. In today’s technologically saturated world, people are reading less and less. This is a shame since people are missing out on life changing material; they are leaving money on the table.
I know we’re all busy, I get it. But who can’t make the time to read just 10 pages a day?
