Russian Ark. This is where a nobleman from the 19th century wonders the halls of the Russian State Hermitage Museum as he encounters people from different times in Russian History. Alexander Sokurov creates complex scenes with over crowded ball rooms, creating more room for mistakes and failure, yet he was able to execute the film with accuracy and grace by spending 2 years preparing the movie, this is shown through a panning and floating shot. This was also done with the assistance of the museum Director, curators and staff for a sense of authenticity.

The greatness of 18th-19th century Russia is displayed through the simplicity of a single shot which captures the intricate architectural design of the Winter Palace of the Russian State Hermitage Museum. The first person body camera allows the audience to understand the maze-like architecture and witness the residents interactions.

My Film

I recorded this while walking from the UTS Insearch blue building towards George street, Sydney. This was entirely recorded and edited from my iPhone 7. The two subjects within my video were purposely used to narrate my journey throughout Sydney. I sped up the parts where they were walking and kept everything else around them that was moving at normal pace to highlight the focus on how others interact with the city and area surrounding UTS. The first section after the sped up walking was a montage of the cars driving on busy George Street with people waiting to cross. This can indicate that the people may be walking from work to the station or even yet to their city homes. How we read a situation and person may be different to how somebody else analyses the same condition of that unique individual. How you connote a situation may differ from the denotation of the condition. The reason behind speeding up and slowing down the different parts of the footage was to allow for the audience to understand the importance of time and how we use it to our advantage. This allowed me to put into perspective the city walk that we unfortunately misjudge and take for granted, the sole purpose of this video was to bring into the audiences eyes for them to discover and truly appreciate what surrounds us all.
