Mercedes-Benz is a brand of luxury cars, buses and trucks of the German company Daimler AG. Founded in 1926 by Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, the company has a long history dating back to the early days of the automobile.

Karl Benz, a founder of Mercedes-Benz, is often credited with creating the world’s first gasoline-powered automobile, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which was patented in 1886. Gottlieb Daimler also played a role crucial in the early development of the automobile. He developed a fast, lightweight gasoline engine that paved the way for the creation of the first Mercedes car.

The name “Mercedes” first appeared in 1901 when Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) used the first name of the daughter of one of their main distributors, Emil Jellinek, for a new line of cars. These cars were very successful and the name stuck.

In 1926, following economic difficulties caused in part by the consequences of the First World War, the two competing companies, Benz & Cie. and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, have decided to merge to form the Daimler-Benz company. The Mercedes-Benz brand was officially established that year, with the iconic three-pointed star logo, symbolizing land, sea and air transportation.

Since then, Mercedes-Benz has continued to be a major player in the automotive industry, producing a range of luxury vehicles, sports cars and utility vehicles. They have also been at the forefront of many technological and safety innovations, such as the invention of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the airbag.

In the 2000s, Mercedes-Benz faced increased competition from other luxury brands, but it remained a leading brand thanks to its commitment to quality, performance and luxurious design.
