Religion

Haters gonna hate.

Because it is religious stuff does not means that it does not have merit or actual value. Everything has two sides.

You are not a rationalist if all you do is dismissing all religious teachings at face value and never really consider the real implication of the lesson. In that case, you are more likely a man of your own religion. Possibly, the religion of your own ego. And not really a rationalist.

Sure, there are lots of bullshit in all religions. The ones that are easier to grok gets the most hate. Because what you cannot judge - you cannot really hate. But everything in life is like that, is it not?

There are lots of bullshit at schools, universities, governments, banks, people, _everything_. But you have to also consider why things are the way they are, why a lot of people depends on it, why it is still popular after thousands of years etc. If you have not really experience them to the fullest, or never really tried to understand them, are you really in the position to actually judge them?

People seems to have the strongest of opinions on the things that are most remote to them. Maybe it is just my generation. Maybe it is local to this internet era where information is at your fingertips but validating it is considered too much effort.

You can learn just the shittiest part of any religion and use it to dismiss the whole book so you can feel a bit smarter. Or you can learn the best of lessons from all of them and become a wiser man for the rest of your life. I think the latter sounds more appealing to me.

Are you really _that_ smart and all rational if you can’t tell the wisdom from the ritual?

p.s. And oh, please stop using the general word “religion” when you actually have specifics in mind. There are a lot of other religions on this planet. You know that, right?

p.s. The word “rationalist” was the first one that comes to mind. I thought of “atheist” while writing this, but I think it might gives out the wrong impression.
