Job transition is super crucial in one institution

People come and go. It is just the nature of everything. It is a matter of how one can stay longer or how sooner one will leave. However, it is important how you can manage transition period very well within one institution when someone leaves your organization.

I experienced working in a private place which does not provide good transition between previous employee and the new one. Even I myself did not get any guidances or clear job description of what I should do in position i’m taking.

It took me about 3 months to figure out my own job responsibilities. I felt I was very new to the job. I did not know job description in details. The previous person did not introduce how she worked, and I had no idea what to ask her since I did not understand anything about the job. Along the way I was trying to understand the work, I kept asking my teammates about my own job and kept exploring everything. This is hilarious, isn’t it? How couldn’t HR department know this kind of issue? This issue kept happening repeatedly and almost become a culture.

Initially, I thought it happened only to me, but later, I realized that when I worked with other department, this issue also happened. People in other departments also did not do job transition to new people, so when I contacted new employees to do some work for me, they said the job I assigned for them was more likely out of their authority.

I kept asking many people because I was searching for whom I could ask to deal with that problem. That work should had been done within a few days only but it turned out to more than one week. I wish I knew how to code so that I could fix the problem by my own. I had many other tasks to do and this delaying work alone made my day stressful and annoying.

Anyway, to sum up, proper transition period is very important for a new employee and related departments shall know this transition process as well, at least, they should know who the new guy is to responsible for the old job description.
