Before I share my experience we as a team would like to thank Masai School for providing us the opportunity to clone an e-commerce website CaratLane. This project did teach us how to work in teams and I truly feel great to have this opportunity as it enhances our skills.

Introduction :

We cloned a website name CaratLane. It is an e-commerce website well-known for its premium design and range of jewelry. Caratlane is a subsidiary of Tata Group.

How did it start?

It was the first exciting and interesting project we got in Masai. All my teammates were from different parts of the country, so since we were working on our first ever project online, communication was going to be a challenge. Our team got connected with each other on a WhatsApp group. We had a deadline of 7 days to complete this project. So we divided our work and came up with a plan on how we are going to approach the project. Cloning a website was nothing less than creating a real website for us.

Following are the images of our cloned website and the people who have worked hard for it.

CaratLane website functionality :

I started with the signup page and login page, where you can create your account and using the same information you can log in to the website. It will throw an error if the user credentials do not match with the created one. After the login is successful you will be directed to the homepage of Caratlane.

The homepage is cloned by myself and Shubham. The drop-down menu is seen when you hover over different categories of products. You can also see a slideshow of testimonials of clients shared on the Instagram page of CaratLane.

The 3 categories of products page were cloned by me and Shubham. You can sort the products according to their price and add the products you want to buy to the cart. These details will be stored in local storage and will be then directed to the cart page.

After that Shubham completed the clone of the Checkout Page where you can remove items from your cart and proceed to pay. Shubham also completed the payment page where you can enter your bank details and confirm the payment of your product which will then lead you back to the homepage to continue shopping at CaratLane.

We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript to achieve all these functionalities.

Learning experience :

  • Real-life implementation of HTML, CSS along with Javascript.
  • Usage of local storage to store user data locally.
  • Use of Github.
  • Time management and Accountability.
  • Collaboration and Team Work.

Overall experience :

We started as a group having a lot of doubts so as to how to get this job done on time. But overall it was a great experience to work with all the team members. I must say projects cannot be built smoothly without the co-operation of all the team members. We did face challenges during the project since we all were from a non-coding background and using GitHub also for the first time. So I would to thank each and every one of them for their efforts and dedication. Special thanks to our lecturer Mr. Chandrashekhar Sir and our Instructional Associates at Masai for resolving our queries on time and helping us to efficiently complete this project within the speculated time. I feel really proud to work with such amazing people and will always look forward to collaborating with them again. We did overcome all of our challenges and self-doubts during this project. The learnings of this project will definitely help us throughout our journey as software developers.
