My Addiction to Drafts

I have trouble publishing. Not writing, but putting it out there. And I know what the problem is, but it is like an addiction. And addiction to a pattern of thinking about whats valuable.

Here’s the cycle.

Feel that I should write. Find a topic, start a blog post, begin typing.

Trap: The want to to write something truly worth-while, something that is ground breaking and usually ‘meta’. Something that people will love and share and find rainbows at the end of it.

Result: Realize that it’s difficult to add anything deeper into the topic after googling around the topic.

Draft languishes.

Knowledge <> Action
Writing is not a zero-sum game. It’s a combination of audience + perspective even if its a minor deviation of style and presentation.

Makes sense but eternally hard to not fall back into the trap.

Breaking the cycle?
Try explicitly not to be meta. Pick concrete things to write on and not set academic level standards of value add for each post.

Onwards.
