The meaning of Kedarkantha is derived from two words, “Kedar” which means Lord Shiva and “Kantha” which means throat. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that the throat of Lord Shiva, which is worshipped in the form of the Kedarnath Temple, is located at the Kedarkantha peak.

Juda Ka Talab:

Juda Ka Talab is a beautiful lake situated en route to Kedarkantha peak. It is a popular camping site for trekkers, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery. The lake is surrounded by pine trees, adding to its scenic beauty.

To Reach the Base Camp of Kedarkantha Trek:

The base camp for the Kedarkantha trek is Sankri village, which is located at a distance of around 200 kilometers from Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. Sankri is well-connected by road and can be reached by taking a bus or hiring a taxi from Dehradun. The journey from Dehradun to Sankri is a scenic one, passing through picturesque villages and dense forests.

Best Time to Visit Kedarkantha Peak:

The best time to visit Kedarkantha peak is from December to April when the region is covered in snow, offering a mesmerizing winter trekking experience. During this time, the entire trail is covered in snow, creating a stunning white landscape. The months of May to November are also suitable for trekking, as the weather is pleasant and the trekking trail is surrounded by lush greenery.

Difficulty Level of Kedarkantha Trek:

The Kedarkantha trek is considered to be a moderate trek, suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. The trek covers a distance of around 20 kilometers, which is usually completed in 4–5 days. The trail is well-defined, passing through dense forests, meadows, and snow-covered landscapes. However, trekkers need to be physically fit and prepared for the altitude gain, as the summit stands at an altitude of 12,500 feet.
