It is difficult to face and fight an enemy when you :
- Don’t study or understand them well as they change and move, fixing them in terms that you are familiar and comfortable with.
- Overgeneralize and amplify their power.
- Naturalize or pathologize the enemy’s behaviour, reducing them to forces rather than recognizing their humanity.
- Fail to decide on key interventions, and instead try to win victories on all fronts, sometimes for fear of criticism of hypocrisy.
- Follow people who have failed instead of learning from their failures.
- Confuse tactics (pacificism, terrorism, negotiations) with political positions and strategic objectives.
- Allow religions you don’t control to unduly influence key decision-making processes.
- Lack resources and a sense of humour.
Unfortunately, some of your work is adding to that difficulty.
