What is Ontology and why you should care?

Ontology market themselves as a trusted network. That is, being the gateway for enterprise to adopt/utilize blockchain technology to grow their business.

Ontology team has decided to divide ONT project into two parts.
Chain Network[part 1] will focus underlining protocol(consensus algorithm, protocol to communicate with different chains, etc…) which will have different article to dive into.
Trust Ecosystem[part 2] will focus on the mechanism to bring real world identity onto blockchain with a verifiable process to avoid fake identity. Then giving back to owner who owns their identity to reveal its identity accordingly.

Let’s see what potential risk that we have already exposed?

Let’s say that we go to a bar, and want to order a drink. The bartender would ask for your ID/Passport in order to verify that you are over 18. Technically, the only thing that you need to show to the bartender is your day of birth. However, you also give out your marriage status/passport ID and other information that is listed. That means it is possible for the bartender to memorize those other details to do things as if they were you online.

ONT ID will be generated with all of your credential combined and even the best engineer in the world cannot use this ONT ID to do bad things or hack out real information it actually contains without your authorization .

To achieve this …

Ontology team will invent Ontology distributed identity framework (ONT ID). That is, how ONT ID is generated and would be unique and compliant with the process of authorization and verification.

(ONT ID) framework will have two modules.

• Ontology distributed identification protocol module — how those important information could be placed/linked onto blockchain without the risk of being hacked.
• Verifiable claim protocol module — to avoid fake ID

The Ontology Distributed Identity Framework (ONT ID) includes the Ontology distributed identification protocol and verifiable claim protocol. It is implemented fully on the Ontology blockchain through smart contracts. ONT ID will support collaborative services such as distributed and diversified ownership confirmation, identification, and authentication of various entities including individuals, legal entities, objects, and content.
