Why Are Used Compact Tractors So Expensive?

I was out in the market looking for affordable used compact tractors with a front-end loader to help at my father’s farm. My family always had a small cattle farm back in the village. For a decade now, it was being maintained by my father ever since his retirement. But his old age had finally started to show his effects & whenever heavy lifting was required he would have to ask to help. So after a brief discussion, we decided to buy ourselves a second hand tractor.

We were able to filter down our needs & decided that all we needed was a compact tractor equipped with a front-end loader. And although the choice of buying a used compact tractor seemed like an affordable one, once we started looking for one the market, it proved to be a much difficult task. Used tractors are supposed to be cheap right? Guess not.

While our budget seemed quite affluent when we began, once we approached the dealerships for used compact tractor things turned sour for us. Apparently, our budget wasn’t even half of what these old tractors for sale came for. Expanding our budget wasn’t an option for us, at least not for a second hand tractor.

When I confronted the dealer about the price, he simply told me that it’s simply the game of demand & supply. That used compact tractors with front-end loader are almost always in demand when compared to other farming machines. He offered to show us some construction loaders that might fit in our budget but my father was strictly against it.

We returned home without a used tractor & began contemplating solutions. That is when one of our neighbours who had recently bought a Solis professional tractor told us about their compact tractor series. And adviced us that rather than buying a used compact tractor which comes very expensive, it will be better to buy a new Solis compact tractor. The dealership was nearby, so we drove hurriedly to it as we had been looking for an old compact tractor quite a while.

It was at Solis’s dealership I was finally able to take the back seat for the first time in this whole venture. Their two compact tractors,Solis S20 & S26 came with the option for a front-end loader fulfilling our major requirement from the machine. I was however concerned that whether my father who was hell-bent on buying a used compact tractor, will give a green flag to these new machines.

The specification was impressive on both, but what could steer us away from the buy was the most basic yet essential thing, the price. After he had taken a test-drive of both the tractors, my father still didn’t show any signs that we were going to make the buy. Restless at this point, I had already google five more dealerships for used tractors for sale. But to our surprise, Solis’s compact tractor turned out to quite affordable even than some of the fancier used compact tractors we had seen.

Solis 20 especially had caught my father’s eyes & we made the buy on the spot. So, in my conclusion to this entry, my advice to all those out there looking for a used compact tractor, is to go for a new one instead. Old tractors don’t come cheap, and the only rationale about their high price that will be thrown at your face will be the ‘demand-supply’ crap. Rather, go for affordable compact farm tractors by trusted companies like Solis & make your buy into an investment.
