Art Fair Philippines 2016

1. a) Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea (Artist: Joe Datuin, Riel Hilario, Phyllis Zaballero) : The overall theme of the gallery as per my analyzation is all about the daily lives on an ordinary citizen of the country wherein it showcased the different artworks that portrays the actions and views of an ordinary citizen of a state. The vibe of the gallery is seem to be just a simple things but with extraordinary meaning. As per observation some audiences just pass by on this gallery because it really seems simple but for me it’s not in which is gives meaning for us teenagers of today. b) For the 3 works shown, I chose first the artwork titled “Solace in the Sea of Clouds” wherein it depict a person who has a tobacco on the mouth and seem to pollute in the sea of clouds around him. Nowadays many people is addict on tobacco or the modern kind of smoking which is vape wherein they are saying vape is more safe than the regular tobacco but in reality it still have the same negative effect on one’s health and also to the mother nature. Second is the artwork titled “Time to Shine:Mixed Media” as we can see, the artwork seems to portray the modern teenager nowadays wherein for me has a big meaning for us millenials. The message of this is that teenagers todays can multi-task in everything even though we have task to do and it also gives the meaning that we can be one with different activities because of the strength we have right now. Our perspective today is that whatever activity it is, as long as it is safe we can and we can do it. Lastly, the artwork titled “Windows within Windows” for me it portrays what we see on our own windows which depicts different nature, weather etc. It also shows the normal life outside our own windows wherein the simplicity of people is being shown.
Jose Tence Ruiz : a) The artwork presented in his gallery is a different kind of electric chair, I think from the old centuries in which differs in design and sizes. b) I had a picture on one of the chair presented in which has a big impact on this today political issues. The chair presented is used for punishing criminal because as per my description it is an electric chair. The political issue nowadays is the controversy of the approval of death penalty in our country in the administration of Pres. Duterte wherein the current administration what to implement this kind of punishment to punih those criminals in our society. As I observe on the artworks I think the artists really emphasize this on the gallery because as we observe this is the only gallery which is in the middle in which I know has a significant meaning. The symbolism that today, tomorrow or the next day these artworks may be an instrument to kill or end a life of a someone.
WSK : a) & b)As I observed this gallery, at first I don’t really get the point or the meaning of some of the artworks because I am stil in the stage of analyzation wherein it takes time to me to get the symbolism of the artwork but after that I still got some insights that these artworks depicts the people and nature nowadays wherein it evolves and it differs from one to another. For me the message of these artworks is that we are easily bring up with the different perspective of today for example the body of a human being but with head of a dog for me because dogs or animal is being more close today to human we are being compare now to a dog or any domestic animals because of the closeness of the nature, animals etc to us human beings. That is why this artworks reminds us the status of the human being today.
3. I am very culture shock on the audiences on this particular event. For me this event is for elite or the high class people because as I see the outfit of each audience and specially their jewelries I know that they are very elite. I also observed that there are tv artist like Toni Gonzaga wherein I then realize that this even is so good because even tv personalities give time to visit. In terms of the local contemporary Philippine art scene I am very amazed. Why? because through these very good artist they can depict and show to us millennials of today the different practices, equipment, kinds of art works etc. from the past wherein today the basic knowledge we have is from the book and from researches only. In terms of comparing this event from the National Museum trip, there is a big difference. First, the audience, the audience in this event is so elite while in the National Museum it is just like for commoners. Second, the kind of artworks, the artworks in this event is so modern while in the national museum the artworks are merely from the past. Lastly, this event has an entrance fee in which it has a reason to raise funds while in the national museum it’s free and it’s for all. Overall, the audience I encounter is very elite wherein I talked to some of them using English language wherein I felt that this is really a big event for the elite. Overall my experience in this art fair as 10 as the highest (8/10) because some the artworks I don’t really appreciate that is why that is my rating.
