I don’t like the idea of a Carbon tax because it could hurt the poorest of the poor and the lower middle class the worst. If you put a carbon tax on electricity, what happens to those with solar power, Do they get carbon credits? Our government and our courts do not seem to be ruled not by the common good or what is right but by rich corporations. When someone like Buffet, the owner of Train Car Company can sue to stop a pipeline for Oil or stop a rooftop solar company, then it is clear that we have no clear cut energy policy at all, but are ruled by the Electric Company and other major corporations who only care about profit, and not about reducing pollution. What we really need is some way to establish a clear energy policy through a consensus of the parties involved and through enforceable standards and agreed upon public policies. Just doing whatever some politician wants or what the electricity companies want is morally wrong.
