5 Reasons to Sell Your Home in the Winter
Thinking about selling your home, but you’ve heard it’s better to wait until Spring? Selling in the winter has its benefits too!
1. Less Competition
With fewer homes on the market in the winter months, you’ve got less properties to compete with which increases your chances of standing out to potential buyers. Whereas in Spring, everyone lists their home for sale and your home is diluted by the competition.
2. Motivated Buyers
When the dark evenings come and the weather gets cold, it takes more motivation to go out and view homes. We’re all busy over the Christmas period too, traveling and seeing family, so you know that the buyers that DO come to view your home are serious and buying is top of their priorities. Serious buyers = serious offers!
3. Paperwork may be processed quicker
With lower housing inventory in the winter, conveyances and mortgage lenders are likely to be less busy too. This means that you may be able to benefit from a quicker service all around!
4. Showcase how cozy your home is
Although you may not be best positioned to show off your landscaping or your spring flowers, you do have the benefit of being able to show your home as a home. Highlight the features of a cozy home – the fireplace, the lighting, the scent. Focus on staging the home for the winter!

5. Better Positioned as a Buyer in the Spring!
Last but perhaps most importantly, by selling in the winter, you’re likely to be completing in the early spring (sale time + conveyancing time). The spring… When everyone else thinks it’s a great time to sell and the market is flooded with properties competing with each other. As a buyer in the spring time, you’re not only going to be spoilt for choice but you’re in a great position to negotiate a great deal.
