Not really. The NBA is definitely not a free market and capitalist system. The players are part of a union and they are fighting for as much pay for their labor as possible. Them taking less allows the capitalist (owner) to take home more instead of using that on labor.
Also owners dont do as you explain, the league does that. Owners pay and hire people, but this is something that could easily be done simply by player management or public bodies (for example the Green Bay Packers). Sure certain owners invest more in their players through certain means (for example Cuban may invest more in facilities), but again we dont necessarily need private owners to do this.
