As a guy, I suppose I have it better since there’s not so much social pressure to look sexy. But all my life I have been puzzled at the abuse heaped on fat people. It just seems all out of proportion, compared (say) to what bald guys or little people get. What inspires this level of abuse? Of all the inconveniences of flying, why is sitting next to a big person such a major issue?
I think it could be that many people have a mean streak and fat shaming is one of the few socially accepted outlets for cruelty. Or they could be externalizing their own body image problems. I just don’t get it.
