Freelance: A Life Style!
I have worked as Software Engineer for about 11 years already since 2005 after graduate from University, at the beginning started as a regular “common” Web Developer as everyone else and all my friends around, but in 2007 all have changed… I heard about the iPhone and Apple but it wasn’t until 2009 (2 years later) that I had the opportunity to tackle my hands-on my first MacBook and a year later my first iPhone, the falling in love with a new path on my career was starting and I didn’t know where I was going to.
By the time being I was working for a local software company as many others around Cochabamba that time there was a trend on the Web Development, almost no other engineers around or in my country was working with iOS or Macs because they were a little expensive, Android was just starting along and way more easy (and inexpensive for some) to follow that, but I didn’t want to follow that, as many things in life that matters, they cost.
So I have resigned my job as Web Developer on the local company and started working as Freelance with a client company in US (how I got the contract is another story for later), lucky for me they encourage me to do the training on iOS at the beginning, maybe with a little payment rate, but hey I had a job and I was educating myself, it was a huge opportunity.
A few years later I have totally resigned to work full-time remote freelance at my own payment rate with my own clients, but the thing I didn’t know then it was that the clients were a little hard to get if you are a third-development country engineer, every few months or after a year, even with Elance or other freelance sites, like dating sites to find your true love, it was hard!
Lucky for me I always had the willing to take risks, I have traveled many countries like Chile, Argentina, Colombia (and soon US) to follow my dream and become an excellent iOS Developer working with the best projects all over the world.
But 2 years ago I have met Swift, I have followed in love immediately and now I have many repositories and a Social Network App completely made in Swift, I have a few CocoaPods controls and I try to make contributions on Open Source Swift projects (at least get involved and help),
So finally I think I’m ready now to follow Toptal 3% Engineers and continue my growth to become an expert on the field and sure why not continue with the dream: a Freelancer Life Style!
