Nanobyte Twitter Tipper
Introduction
Hello Everyone. I’m really excited to announce the availability of the Nanobyte twitter tipping feature. We want to showcase how easy and fun it is to send a transaction with Nanobyte, so we decided to create a Twitter Tip bot. As Nanobyte is a browser extension, this gives us the capability of interacting with Twitter in unique and interesting ways.
With Nanobyte you can connect your twitter account to tip anyone on twitter, any amount. They will receive their tips instantly and without fees. Such is the beauty of Nano.
How it works
In order to begin, you need to have Nanobyte installed, and you have to connect your twitter account through the profile data section.
Once you have connected your twitter account, the next time you go to twitter, you will see the Nano currency symbol under each tweet.
If you click on that button, you’ll get a popup asking you how much you want to tip and whether you would like to include a message with your tip.
Then you get the Nanobyte confirmation popup.
Finally, once the tip is confirmed, Nanobyte will tweet the reply on your behalf.
And voila, you have now tipped someone on Twitter.
“Hold up Charlie, how on earth can you tip someone without knowing their Nano address?”
Well, first we check to see if they have already connected their twitter account to Nanobyte, and if so, we route the tip straight to that account.
If they haven’t, then we hold their tips, waiting for them to connect their twitter account. If they do, then we route all unclaimed tips in their name to them. If, after 3 days, they have not claimed their tip, then we send it right back to the tipper. This way, you can be sure that no tip will remain in limbo.
“Why are you Tweeting from the tippers account?”
We want to be tasteful with Nanobyte. The purpose of this tip bot is to provide the ability for users to show their appreciation for content they find interesting, funny, or valuable. Not to mindlessly spam microtips to every tweet on their feed. This comes across as annoying and shilly, which damages Nano’s reputation and is antithetical to our goals. We know that it comes from a good place and enthusiasm for Nano, which we all share, however we should be respectful to the platform and its users.
By tweeting the reply from the tippers account, it’s more personal and places the responsibility on the tippers shoulders, hopefully making people think twice before engaging in such behaviour.
That’s it for now, if you have any questions or would like to provide some feedback, we would love to hear from you. Please join our discord. You can also contact me on Twitter @mackcee or email me at charlie@nanobytepay.com. You can also learn more about Nanobyte through our website.
Until next time.
