You always offer lots to think about. Esp when I’m on the cusp of being hired as interim CMO to lead a new digital pub through their pivot (their work is good, valuable journalism, work that should be done and there be more of). The investors want to see numbers (but they can’t tell us what kind of numbers they want to see). I chart out all possible growth & revenue models but so much of it is tied to either ad money or subscription if not both. Yet in this content rich / oversaturated environment, how do you afford to produce good quality journalism and satisfy investor’s need?! There is a land grab for limited attention but is there an infinitely patient investor who will let us test our way through this murky water on what’s next for media and advertising?
