I don’t consider myself angry, just concerned. Watching on the news in college as black men were killed constantly for nothing made me cry. It made me order my first drink. It made me think about my brother who, though not dark, is a big man. He’s a big teddy bear but to police he would just look like a big, black, dangerous man. It made me cry for my uncles who are very tall black men (6'5 and up) and worry about them.

And everything you said about what it’s like to a black women is so accurate for me. It took me a long time for me to accept myself because no one treated being a black woman like it was anything special; it was more like a plague.
