The whole competitiveness of racism that has historically been part and parcel of this country’s (and the world’s) ongoing evolution continues to baffle me. Oftentimes, people claiming to be non-racist will say something to the effect of “When I look at someone, I don’t see color.” And they think that gets them off the hook. But it doesn’t. It’s a head-in-the-sand statement. You want to be non-racist? You look at another person, acknowledge any differences and learn about them, acknowledge any similarities and share them, then go about your business in an enlightened manner.
Okay, I think I just solved the world’s biggest problem. What do I win?
