To Trans Young People: You Are Beautiful And Perfect Just As You Are
The Trump Administration cannot take away your rights or our fight to protect them.
Over the past two days, sources from inside the Trump administration have confirmed that the administration plans to rescind the Obama administration’s guidance to schools about how to protect transgender students under Title IX — the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions.
The Obama Department of Education and Department of Justice issued an extensive guidance document in May after years of investigation into the best ways to protect transgender students from discrimination. The reversal of course by the Trump administration should put to bed any notion that this administration will protect the LGBTQ community. And of course, the extensive targeting of immigrant, Black, indigenous, and Muslim communities already undermines the most basic notions of decency and justice. The administration’s latest attack — this time on trans youth — is yet another cruel and mean-spirited measure that does nothing but encourage discrimination and diminish hope for already vulnerable individuals and their families.
