How Not To Fail On A Double Rope Rappel

Really, should follow a checklist…

It’s still early season, only dry part of the week, yet much of the rock walls are still seeping out some water. Nevertheless, the desire to be outside climbing as soon as possible despite weather and wind is a huge temptation that ultimately we succumb to quite often.

As such, we went out for a climb or two yesterday to have some fun. The weather was actually perfect, a little overcast, a little windy, but a solid 65 degrees and not raining.

We went to one of our favorite spots, really just a warm up area. It’s only my 3rd time outside this season so still getting warmed up and used to pulling on rock instead of plastic.

I showed up a bit later than the rest of the party and we started up a few easy routes, a 5.8 and a 5.10a, got warmed up with a couple of leads and did alright. We had a couple friends in town who hadn’t climbed in the area so we, (my buddy and I) took them to one of our favorite short multi pitches, it’s super easy but has a fun 200+ foot rappel at the top of the face.
