Why Cinco de Mayo?

We all love the chips and guac, burritos, enchiladas and every other good thing that comes with it being the 5th of May. However, I’m pretty sure this is a holiday more celebrated in the US than Mexico, from which it actually originates.

May 5th, aka Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the Mexican Army’s victory over the french in during the battle of Puebla in 1862. Most don’t know / remember this (including myself until I looked it up, again.)

So there you have it, really it’s a celebration of a battle being over. But enjoy your tacos today :)
