What is the emotion of success? That moment when you know you have accomplished something, taking that pause to appreciate yourself. Knowing no so much the pain but rather effort and sometimes discomfort it took to get there. Not unlike and orgasm in that brief moment. The celebration of the success elongates that emotion. Becomes crave-able.
Create systems that allow for the proverbial cigarette in bed, to linger. To reflect, to plan for the next one. How does it become its own motivation for you?
Less than 2 weeks prior to my high school reunion the only person I would consider an enemy, died.
When my wife walked down in the morning to tell me what she saw on facebook, I was shocked. For close to a decade he was always in the back of my head. One of those regrets that your brain keeps bringing back in dreams. But that was an outcome that I was not prepared for.
I’ve always imagined we would fight again, just like we had every time after he was arrested. The last time, senior year in college, I…
Hackathons are beginning to emerge within larger organizations to give passionate engineers an opportunity to show that they can solve tough problems, explore new ideas and remove roadblocks to make their day jobs easier.
Before you start organizing an enterprise hackathon, take a peek at some key ingredients I’ve found that will help you set up a successful environment for innovation — versus coercing your employees to stay later than usual.
Colorado has been the home of the craft beer scene for quite a while. As existing breweries grew up and new breweries set up in eclectic neighborhoods, many begin to focus on styles that define their atmosphere inside and out. This is what decided the Colorado Brewery Car List.
Located right next to famous concert halls of Fillmore and Ogden on the sketchy stretch of Colfax, this little brewery is where Wayne and Garth would stop in before a show.
Boulder is quickly becoming the most expensive bohemia in the nation and Avery just moved into a brand new multi-million…
Recently I downloaded the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas app, mostly because I was amazed that a console game which I spent hours on in my youth was now on my phone. Half the size of an xbox controller. Also the radio stations play the best 90's rap complimenting the recent release of Straight Outta Compton.
For those not familiar with the genre, the game play is composed of 2 routes: a main story line which you kill, die and steal endlessly and “assets” businesses you acquire that generate money.
The role of assets were introduced in GTA: Vice City…
Doughnuts are a treat. Little circles of dough that are fried, baked, filled, iced, sprinkled, decorated, textured or as is. While the mental image of doughnuts likely conjures the piggly cop from Simpsons to be enjoyed copiously while the plot of life passes you by, leaving some extra weight glazed with self pity and sprinkled with defeat.
Well, you’re doing it wrong.
Here are the 5 rules to eating a doughnut properly:
As I write this you are 3 months old, or 12 weeks. It depends on if you are talking to other parents or not. Not sure why we decided to count in weeks versus months, I always thought it was a weird math test to see if you are a good parent. “Oh he’s 63 weeks!” I gave up trying to divide by 4 and now just gauge if it can walk. Hopefully you’ll be faster at mental arithmetic than I am. …
I like new years resolutions. It hits a natural planning cadence that people have after they have celebrated the holidays and and perhaps find 5 minutes to stare blankly into a fire thinking about what the fuck will happen next year. Resolutions give a small sense of control in an otherwise open ended question.
But before we start looking into that deep introspection well of ambitious goals let’s first look back on 2015 and see what we were able to muster.
The best personal productivity system I have found so far and why.
People want to do it all. Media does a good job showcasing things we might not have or experience. That’s OK, sometimes people don’t want to experience everything they see in the media. But more often then not, we do.
In an culture that promotes digital efficiency we are tasked with not only completing more but experiencing more. Over the years I have created a process to help with that covers 3 distinct parts.
Break things down into: daily, weekly, yearly, a 2–3 year horizon, someday maybe and…
Are but a few of the recent service establishments that have opened up here in Denver. But the concept of creating a brand image and feel based off of two similar, but different references is alive and well across the nation.
There is a rising trend of the two word combinations. Instead of focusing on new names that are unique one word names the ampersand is getting a branding work out like never before. Could it be that all the crazy one word names that sound like a future pharmaceutical drug are taken? Or better yet a new startup.
