Don’t count Cache Valley out of the foodie scene.

If you haven’t noticed, I love all things Cache Valley. I think CV is one of the best kept secrets in Utah. In my mind, great restaurants hold great stories and food and startups go hand in hand. I’m duty bound to enlighten everyone and I figure that food is one of those areas where we can all connect. There’s nothing like finding a unique place that you and your friends and family call your own. Food can make or break a community. Luckily, Cache Valley has some favorites that deserve to be shared.

Herm’s Inn

Ask any college student where they and their friends go to on Saturday mornings for a good breakfast. You’ll most likely hear that their favorite joint is Herm’s Inn.

Herm’s is a Logan treasure, preserved by local founder of Cache Valley Electric, Jim Laub. Thanks to people like Jim, history is preserved and places of character and quality are born and thrive.

Herm’s began as an inn at the mouth of Logan Canyon by Herman and Elizabeth Johnson in the early 1900s. The building got a makeover and developed it’s familiar look and feel in 2012 when Jim Laub, determined to preserve the establishment, restored and expanded it. In addition to eating in a unique and historic location, you know you’ll be satisfied by fresh, delicious food.

Herm’s Inn after.

You’ll find college students, locals, and visitors passing through enjoying local favorites like the giant swirl pancakes, skillets, and burgers.

So good it’s in my two first articles. 2/2 👌

If you’re fine braving the crowds on one of their busier days, Saturday morning, Herms is well worth the time.

Crumb Brothers

Crumb Brothers is another favorite for fresh ingredients and a beautiful dining environment. Crumb Brothers has been family owned and operated in Cache Valley since 2001. The company specializing in baking fresh bread daily and offers a variety for all tastes. Check out their bread schedule here!

Crumb Brothers is located in a beautiful building in a unique area of west Logan.

An essential part of a good dining experience for me is a unique atmosphere or space to enjoy your food. Crumb Brothers is located in a beautiful space that is environmentally friendly as well. The building was designed to be powered using geothermal exchange as well as built to maximize the use of natural light.

Whether you order one of their well-known breakfasts or even just a slice of bread, you won’t be disappointed with this local favorite.

Gibbon’s Green Gate Farm

One of the best sensations there is is finding a new, unique restaurant that nobody knows about and having the duty to spread the word. That’s how I feel about GGG. Gibbons Green Gate Farms is wholly owned and operated by the Gibbons family in Smithfield, just north of Logan.

GGG is off the beaten path in Smithfield, just 10 short minutes from Logan, Utah.

Gibbons Green Gate Farm functions resides on a family farm and as a result allows for a true farm-to-table dining experience. The restaurant is open only Friday and Saturday mornings for breakfast from 8-12. One Friday every month, they open for dinner and live music. When you get an omelet, lamb sausage, and whole wheat toast, you know that you will be eating a meal prepared with ingredients produced on the farm.

Being only two years young, Jared and Rachel Gibbons have developed a small following of local farmers, as well as in the know foodies from Logan. The quality food, as well as the views of the beautiful farmland of Cache Valley, you’ll be sure to have a fantastic experience at GGG.

Oh yeah, and bunnies.

Looking to buy a bunny? Yeah, they raise those too.
Yeah…you’ll get attached.

Morty’s Cafe 🍔

I think it’s safe to say that Morty’s Cafe was the first restaurant in Logan that got its start from a Kickstarter campaign. Local entrepreneur 💪/videographer🎥/graphic designer 🖥, Ty Mortensen and professor, Preston Parker, set out to give Logan a truly gourmet burger, conveniently located next to nearby Utah State University (Check out their menu here.).

Art and design done by the talented, Ty Mortensen. More art at Dribbble.

Ty and Preston smashed their goal and raised a total of $12,124 to help fund the project in the Spring of 2014. Their blog outlines some of the adventures they’ve had since opening on October 13th, 2014!

Morty’s has created a truly unique environment where students in the community can come together and enjoy the simple things in life: a fresh burger and killer fries! If you’re lucky, on Wednesday nights you may even get to hear a taste of local jazz 🎷🎷🎷 from some great Cache Valley musicians.

The Mortician, an October only favorite of mine. I can only eat one per year.

Fresh ingredients, local founders, live music, rooftop dining? Seems too good to be true in Logan. Morty’s has it all.

Morty’s Cafe commissions art from local artists. Here’s a sample from Andrew Beck. Again, more art at. .

Morty’s shows what going out on a limb, exerting some effort, and believing in building something can do to make a community better. If only more people left positive marks on their communities like Ty and Preston! 💪

👏👏👏

👏 Thank you Ty!👏

Tandoori Oven🍲

If you think think that Cache Valley is only known for good American food, think again. For lovers of curry, the only place to go in town is Tandoori Oven. Built into a gas station that the family owns, Tandoori offers authentic Indian cuisine at a really good price. Whether you order chicken tikka masala or curry, you won’t leave disappointed.

Don’t be scared off by the fact that it’s connected to a gas station.

Tandoori is loved due to its authenticity, from the food, to the music playing, you know you are getting authentic Indian cuisine. That’s due to the hard work of family who is passionate about good Indian food.

Sham Arora started the business back in 2004 and has only seen the business grown. His son, Mohit Arora, is now the manager and continues to bring quality food to the people of Cache Valley. More on the family here.

If you want authentic Indian food, Tandoori is the place to go in Logan, Utah.

If you don’t know what to order, just ask Mohit, he’ll tell you to get the Chicken Tikka Masala or those who favor a sweeter dish, the Coconut Kurmon.

All in all, Tandoori is a standard among Logan foodies.

You’ll never find better dining in a gas station.
