In fact, the way you get over anything is by forgetting and focusing on something else. There is an art in learning how to intentionally ignore the fuck out of something.

I can’t disagree vehemently enough with this idea. While there is merit to not letting negative thoughts control your mind, forgetting and ignoring your emotions is absolutely not a healthy way to process your feelings. That kind of thinking is what drives a lot of people to explode and do crazy things. Furthermore, it’s this kind of cold realism that I’ve found to be the most unhelpful advice during hard times. This whole just do it ideal completely ignores the intense internal struggle that many people undergo in order to get over something. More helpful would be strategies for getting the fuck over it.
