What is CPU?

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the primary component of a computer that acts as its “control center. CPU contains 5 main parts.There are;

1. Control Unit — Perform all controlling functions
2. Arithmetic and Logic Unit — Perform all calculations & logic
3. Register Array — Stores data & instructions temporarily.
4. Cache Memories — A set of high-speed memories.
5. Internal Bus — A conduction path that connects all internal parts electrically.

Computers have 5 types of memories.

1. Primary Memory — Usually called RAM, internal, Read-Write Memory (RWM)
2. Read Only Memory — (ROM) — Contains the micro-level programs needed to start up and maintain low-level operations of the computer.
3. Secondary Memory — Usually called external Storage (Hard disk, Solid State Drive (SSD), Digital Video Disc (DVD) etc.)
4. Cache Memory — High-speed, expensive memories internal, external, or both.
5. Register Memory — (Registers) High-speed, expensive internal memories.
