It plays a crucial role in our lives. Literacy is a gateway to education. It allows us to read write and comprehend information which is essential for personal development.

Illiteracy is a complex issue that carries far reaching consequences. For children growing up in marginalised communities’ access to quality education is often a luxury. Illiteracy perpetuates a cycle of poverty, limited opportunities, and restricted access to essential resources. Children growing up in marginalised communities of one lack access to quality education, adequate learning material, and the supportive environment that facilitate effective learning. These challenges compound over time preventing them from realising their full potential and participating fully in society.

Literacy stands as a beacon of knowledge and empowerment, illuminating the path to a better life. Beyond the ability to read and write, literacy empowers the individuals to participate fully in their communities, make informed decisions, and pursue lifelong learning. Its impact extends far beyond mere letters on a page; it shapes mind, fosters critical thinking, and paves the way for personal growth. However, for underprivileged children, this path often remains dark by barrier that hinder their access to quality education and opportunities literacy brings. There exists a wide gap between literacy and underprivileged children that must be addressed.

Even in today’s time there are complex web of challenges that underprivileged children’s encounter on their path to literacy

1.They have limited access to schools that provide quality education. Insufficient resources hinder their ability to learn effectively.

2.Inadequate nutrition health issues and substandard living conditions can lead to hinder cognitive development, making it difficult for children to focus on learning.

3.Underprivileged children may face social stigma due to their background which can lead to lower self-esteem and lack of motivation

4.In an increasingly digital world, lack of access to computer and the internet place underprivileged children at a disadvantage

5.Gender discrimination can disproportionately affect girls’ education. Cultural norms, early marriages and household responsibility are barriers in girls’ education.

Promoting literacy is a crucial endeavour that lays the foundation for individual growth, community development and societal progress.
