It’s mostly male in the literal sense of having been founded by and mostly featuring men as hosts, but I extensively quote two women, Angela and Amber, who guest on the show. But “male” does have a connotation of the lowbrowness that Chapo embraces. I do think I should have gone into the gender imbalances in a more coherent way.
I think her appearance definitely plays into it! Like Chris Gannett says in the article, she does great with “millennial males” and shows GOP isn’t only old and white. Also her appearance makes her videos in the FB feed that much more potent, I think — for better or worse, viewers will stop and look.
