Being an entrepreneur is a tough gig. It can break you down mentally and physically. It can cause you to become an emotional wreck if you let it. Entrepreneurs new to the game tend to ignore the mental and physical tolls all-together. This is often a result of simply getting caught up in the excitement of starting a new business. But behind the rush of creation is the detriment of ill-health and bad relationships.

Here are three big things to look for when it comes to being a new entrepreneur.

Your social life might end up in the garbage: Having a social life may not seem all too important in the moment of starting your new business, but invariably, that lack of social joy might catch up with you and cause you to feel emotionally depressed. Friends are important. That human contact brings us joy. Starting a company means late night hours, weekends and early mornings. This isn’t always conducive to maintaining healthy relationships.

The solution? Try to schedule in the friend time, even if it is only once per month. That “forced” time will get you away, out of the office, off the laptop. Everyone needs a break.

Your love life might hit a skid: If you are married, expect your husband or wife to feel a bit alienated by your late nights and weekend work hours. No matter how “cool” your significant other is, losing you for most of the time can feel really uninspiring. If you aren’t in a relationship, expect it to be difficult to actually meet anyone at all. This could be good in some ways, of course, because it allows you to focus. But at some point you may want to, you know, go out on a date!

The solution? If you are married, just make the time to do things together. And most importantly, communicate as much as possible your feelings. If you aren’t in a relationship, try some online dating apps if you are interested in finding romance. This can save you tons of time and make the process a whole lot easier.

You might start feeling depressed: Wait, a new business, new revenue, excitement and now…depression? What kind of nonsense is this? Well, the truth is, new businesses can take an emotional toll on people. All those hours, feeling alienated, arguments with a husband or wife…it really adds up.

The solution? Focus on you sometimes. Try to get some sleep. Sleep matters. Not sleeping properly can lead to feeling emotionally bankrupt.
