5 QUESTIONS WITH A FASHION DESIGNER.

DELLA SPENCER THE DESIGNER WHO REFUSES TO WASTE FABRIC.

1.WHAT’S THE MOST VALUABLE LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A FASHION DESIGNER?

DON’T follow trends set your own

RECYCLING is undervalued and creates unique challenges

EQUALITY in fashion is needed from top to bottom

The use of textures, finishings and pattern design really EXCITE me

I have a GIFT for colour placement and surface textiles

2.DO YOU HAVE AN EVERYDAY UNIFORM?

No, even at school I would break the uniform rules and style up.

During the day I run a tattoo shop with my husband so I have the freedom to dress as creative as I want and often wear something I have made so I fit that description easily.

3.WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA PLAYS IN FASHION TODAY?

I think social media is important in every industry and that creative careers really do benefit the most from visual platforms and can creating fanbases easily through sharing posts.

I believe that organic development on social media is an important aspect of branding although many fans buy into the image of the elite or popular pages based on ratios of fans to followers etc I believe that if you had to buy your likes, fans, etc I think that it defeats that ‘popular image’ you are trying to portray. So I totally respect organically grown social media pages and those that share and network with those that may have nothing in return to offer them. I have multiple pages on every social media platform but have done so since the early days with myspace etc I have always tried to help others on social media and made many great contacts by doing so. the whole purpose of the web is to work the net ( network) just don’t get caught up it.

4.TELL US ABOUT YOUR FUTURE PLANS.

I can’t do that its 007 top-secret stuff — lol

ok so my future plans in a nutshell is to continue enjoying creating garments bespoke custom ordered pieces and full collections, I look forward to continuing networking with fabulous people and aim to create an impact with my work.

5.WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG DESIGNERS STARTING OUT?

You are as good as your last piece of work so never stop researching, good foundations will always produce good results

Also there is always a way to create sustainable or environmentally friendly clothing so be innovative, resourceful and culturally authentic in your vision and message.
