The End of a Great Season

We fought hard, and lost. However, we lost to a very talented team. I am extremely proud of this team. We took Broadalbin-Perth volleyball much further than it has ever been. We did it for our coach, Mr. Calvello. He has been our motivation since we were young. He loves and treats us as his own. Our goal was to make him proud. I am confident that we did. I know that tomorrow I will walk into the locker room, unlock my locker, and then realize that it is truly over. We had a truly great season. There is nothing to be ashamed of.

On our way home, we passed the turn to the school. All of us were extremely confused. The bus approached the roundabout and we saw a line of several police and firetrucks with their lights on, waiting for us. As they guided us through the village, people were waiting outside of their houses and cheering for us. It was this moment that I truly realized how great of a community we live in. Many people drove to our games, no matter how far away. Our fans wanted us to succeed as much as we did. The Walendziak family has come to our every game, even though their daughters have graduated from the team. They gave up Union Hockey tickets to watch us play for regional finals in Saranac. Our Principal, Mrs. Blowers, has been nothing but encouraging to us. She bought us crowns to wear in school and constantly talked about us over the announcements. Our school sports Twitter pages had tweeted very encouraging words to us. Mr. Tomlinson bought us lunch and helped set up an assembly to support us. So many people attended our games and have said very encouraging things. I have been approached by many people, that I do not know, who recognized me and have been following and supporting our team for the whole season. I realized that our team truly did have our whole community behind us. It is a truly great feeling to have made them proud.

We owe our success not only to our coach, but to our community that has been endlessly supporting us throughout the season.
