This is why you need an Alaskan Klee Kai.

With so many different dog breeds all over the world, it’s hard to find the perfect one for you. I truly believe I found the PERFECT dog breed for me.

Mia Mazikeen — Chelsie Remund

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a relatively new breed compared to many others. In the 1970s an Alaskan native, Linda Spurlin along with her family developed the “Klee Kai”, which was later changed to the Alaskan Klee Kai. This is a spitz breed that lives to about 10–12 years.

Sizes and Colors

This playful breed comes in three different sizes — toy, miniature, and standard. Toy Alaskan Klee Kai’s are up to 13 inches. The miniature is between 13 to 15 inches, while the standard is 15 to 17 inches normally. So whether you want a small dog or a medium-sized dog, the Alaskan Klee Kai has you covered.

Not only does the AKK(Alaskan Klee Kai) come in different sizes, they also come in different colors. The most common colors are red and white, gray and white, and black and white. My AKK is agouti, so she is red, black, and white. They can also be completely white. AKK can have many different colors of eyes however, the most common are blue and brown. Some AKK’s have two different colored eyes which are rare but very beautiful.

Cost

Alaskan Klee Kai’s price may vary depending on a few factors, one of them being the breeder. Different coat colors and eye colors may also affect the cost of an AKK. Typically between $1,500 to $3,000. Just make sure you talk with a reliable and trustworthy breeder.

Characteristics

Mia Maze - Chelsie Remund

This small breed shares many of the same characteristics as its ancestor the Husky. They are playful, energetic, and are extremely food motivated. This makes them easier to train, although they can sometimes talk back. Like the Husky, The AKK has a high prey drive and are very smart. They make great companion dogs who love to shower you with attention and affection, making them extremely lovable.

Like every other breed, there are some quirks that these little dogs have. Whatever you do, DO NOT trust them off of their leash. These little guys are very curious and love to explore, but when combined with too much freedom you many be chasing them around the yard for a while. I’ve done this way too many times.

There has been quite a bit of research regarding AKK separation anxiety. Many AKK owners have noticed that their dogs have moderate to severe separation anxiety. I know that Mia(my toy AKK) has severe separation anxiety. When everybody leaves the house she barks and screams until someone comes home. I tried crate training when she was a puppy and it did not work. As long as someone is home she is completely fine and happy, but when we all leave is another story.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a dog who is playful, energetic, and full of love then the Alaskan Klee Kai is perfect for you. Since they are extremely smart and love to please their owner they are very easy to train. The different sizes they come in make them a great apartment or house dog.

Bringing a dog into your life is a big decision, so make sure you’re getting the perfect dog for you.
