Drumming Up My Words

A Poem a Day №13

Cheney Meaghan

--

When you go to a beautiful
quiet bookshop
to sit down with the largest
iced coffee they can produce
so that you can produce
as many words as possible
in the least amount of time
you don’t expect
Japanese Taiko drummers
to just appear and
start drumming.

You don’t expect that with all
that drumming and all
those people crowded around you-
the spectators of music
not the custodians of words-
magic happens.

You write over six thousand words
in five hours
at a table with a strange man
with the same goal
and it’s the best day you’ve had
in ages.

I am caught up for the day on my Camp NaNoWriMo goal, over 13,333 words, over 6,000 of them written today at the Savoy — my new favorite place to spend my Sunday afternoons.

Clap your heart out to support my writing :-)
