This is really a tough one. I struggle with the same concerns. For a while, I tried to figure out how I could stop buying food in plastic containers, and tried to only buy food packed in biodegradable (or reusable) containers (glass, cardboard, steel). It was really difficult. It completely altered the way I shopped and ate. I took my own containers and cloth bags to the food co-op and bought in bulk; I made my own yogurt and tofu. I managed to sustain this lifestyle for about 3 months. So, for the average person, it’s almost impossible, unless you have a lot of time to make things from scratch and upcycle your trash.
